Welcome!

Presentation – Kevin Ham, City of Vista Economic Development Director & Business Ombudsman.
Kevin gave the board a brief overview on the Economic Development activities in Vista. He mentioned the impact of the Vista Business Park on the local economy through the over 500 million dollar payroll generated by the companies there. Kevin noted that the occupancy rate in the commercial and office space buildings is below 6% and the retail area is booming with the addition of Target and other large retailers to the city. Another exciting event will take place soon with the completion of Melrose Drive, connecting it to Palomar Airport Rd and giving commuters a vital new transportation route to ease congestion. The growth in the economy of Vista is strong with new development taking place through out the city.

Marketing Committee – Diane Strand, Marketing Chair, reported that money will be allocated for marketing materials to promote the Center for Entreprenomics and to enhance membership growth in SDNEDC. The Marketing Committee is working on a marketing plan for SDNEDC membership development.

Public Policy Committee – Gary Knight, advised the Board that there was a presentation from Granite Construction about the Liberty Quarry project during the Public Policy meeting. The project is about the construction of an aggregate quarry on the Riverside and San Diego Border. Granite Construction is looking for support of the project. The Public Policy committee decided not to recommend a position until the EIR is received and then if it's deemed necessary. The next presentation will be from Nevada Hydro regarding a project they are planning. Gary Knight gave an update about the status of the 2nd seat on SANDAG for the County which is now going through the Senate. Gary Knight reported that the Airport Authority's prospective site location on the military bases is no longer an option due to a letter written from the Secretary of Defense rejecting joint or shared use of their facilities. However, the Airport Authority will continue a study to evaluate the military bases as an option.

President's Report – Gary Knight, overviewed the upcoming events:

• Educational Seminar – Date is projected for March 24th and the location is TBA. This is an invitation only opportunity to learn about Knowledge Transfer and capturing the power of positive deviants.

• Gary Knight announced a member benefit that has been added. Andrew Papageorge, a catalyst and guide for continuous innovation, is giving members of SDNEDC an opportunity to attend a free of charge, 2 hour training workshop on April 28th.

Discover new ways to cut costs with an easy energy analysis

San Diego Gas & Electricฎ offers two free energy analysis options that can help you find new opportunities to save energy – and trim costs – at your business:

1. The online Business Energy Analyzer at www.sdge.com/analyzer. This is a quick way to receive energy-saving recommendations. Just take a few minutes to answer some simple questions about your facility's energy use, and SDG&E's online tool will do the rest – instantly.

2. An on-site energy audit. Call SDG&E's Energy Information Center at 1-800-644-6133 to schedule an appointment for an energy audit at your facility. During the walk-through, an SDG&E representative will evaluate your facility's equipment and energy use for potential energy savings. A detailed report will then be mailed to you. The on-site analysis may be particularly helpful if you have old, inefficient or high-maintenance equipment, or if you are considering retrofits for your facility.

Rebates and incentives available
Whether you choose an online or on-site analysis, some of the resulting energy-efficiency recommendations may qualify for SDG&E rebates or incentives. SDG&E's 2006 programs include increased rebate amounts and more qualifying measures so it's easier to fit energy-efficient upgrades into your budget and reduce your monthly operating costs. For details about programs offered as part of SDG&E's commitment to providing regional energy solutions, visit www.sdge.com/business or call SDG&E's Energy Information Center at 1-800-644-6133.
