SDNEDC Renewals: Benefits Matrix

Presentation – Jeff Segall, Director of Community Relations, Tri-City Medical Center

Tri City Medical Center is requesting support from SDNEDC on the Proposition F bond for the June 6th election. Jeff Segall gave a historic overview of the Tri-City Medical Center from its conception through today. The purpose of the bond measure on the June ballot is to provide the funds necessary to build a new hospital capable of meeting the new and more stringent seismic requirements. This is an unfunded mandate from the State for all hospitals to comply with the new regulations by 2013 or be closed.

Marketing Committee – Diane Strand, Marketing Chair, reported that the marketing committee will be utilizing interns in the development of marketing materials for the Center of Entreprenomics and the SDNEDC marketing materials. The interns are projected to start next month. A press conference was held on the marketing and communications cluster. The press conference went very well and a press release was sent out in regards to the conference. The Marketing Committee has brought up a suggestion to hold quarterly conferences to help businesses meet or better reach their target audience.

Public Policy Committee – Paul O'Neal, Public Policy Chair, informed the Board about the next presentation to be done which will be from the LEAPS Project. The LEAPS project is a power plant and a 31 mile transmission line that is proposed to pass through the Cleveland National Forest. The LEAPS project would be a good addition to the grid link as it would provide electricity power for the North San Diego region. The LEAPS project application is projected to be submitted in May. The Carlsbad Desalination project recently received the support of the project from the City Planning Board with the next step being the approval of the City Council. Tri City Medical Center held a presentation for the Public Policy Committee and they determined that the proposed bond measure adequately addressed the concerns of the public and the business community. A recommendation from the Policy Committee was made to the entire SDNEDC Board to support Proposition F. The Board chair entertained a motion by Paul O'Neal to support Proposition F which was seconded by Julie Wright. The floor was opened to a discussion and a vote was taken, which passed, to support the measure.

Save energy and help the community with Summer A/C Saver

SDG&EŽ is encouraging small businesses to help the community – and receive financial incentives – by saving energy during critical times this summer. Summer A/C Saver is a Demand Response program from SDG&E that helps reduce the region's electric load during extremely hot summer days when air-conditioning use soars.
Summer A/C Saver can help your business save energy with no loss of comfort for your employees or customers, and without disrupting your business operations. In fact, your business can earn over $8 in annual bill credits for each ton of central air-conditioning capacity at your business with Summer A/C Saver.

How it works
When you enroll in Summer A/C Saver, a small wireless device is installed to each outdoor central air-conditioning unit at your business. On hot summer days, a signal is sent to activate each device and cycle the cooling unit (compressor) on and off for a few hours.
Air conditioning units can be cycled for up to 4 hours per day for 15 events from May 1st through October 31st – and never on holidays or weekends. Most building occupants don't notice cycling periodstypically room temperatures may increase by only 1 to 3 degrees. The device only works when your air-conditioning unit is running and is not an on-off switch.
Summer A/C Saver is one of the ways SDG&E is developing energy solutions to help the region. For details or to enroll in the Summer A/C Saver program, call 1-800-850-1705 to reach Converge Inc., the contractor responsible for installing, servicing and removing the wireless device.
