SDNEDC New Member: Olivenhain Municipal Water District SDNEDC Renewing Member: San Diego Magazine Presentation to the Board – Children's Initiative, Sandra McBrayer Sandra provided the Board with an outstanding overview of the San Diego County Report Card on Children and Families. The 2007 San Diego County Report Card on Children and Families is the continuation of a series of annual reports that provide a summary of the overall health and well-being of our county's children, youth, and families. These reports have been produced annually since 1999 by the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency. Starting this year, the Report Card will be produced biannually by The Children's Initiative, a nonprofit child advocacy agency in San Diego. Sandra pointed out that the one indicator that almost every reviewer (police, courts, heath care providers, social workers, etc) said was the most important was school attendance. Poor attendance is not just truancy-related. Whether children miss school as a result of illness, family vacations, substance abuse problems, or truancy, missing many days of school directly affects learning. Membership & Events Committee – Julie Wright, Committee Chair Everyone was reminded that the SDNEDC was hosting an event on Thursday, June 19th where 5 of North County's elected officials (Rep. Issa, Rep. Bilbray, State Senator Wyland, State Senator Hollingsworth and Assemblyperson Garrick) will discuss important issues. A unique feature of this event will be the opportunity for the audience to participate through polling that will be available. A set of questions will be asked and the audience will have a chance to vote before the panelists share their thoughts on the subjects. The Board was reminded that this is our 10th year Anniversary and we are planning a big event for the end of the year. More information will follow at the next board meeting. Public Policy Committee – David Nilson, Committee Chair Michael Floyd of Kimley-Horn presented his company's credentials for their economic assessment of Palomar Airport as commissioned by the County of San Diego. They are to provide a "snapshot" of its contribution now and propose several scenarios (yet to be determined) for future economic impacts. Visitor, Cliff Kaise, as a member of the Palomar Airport Study Team (PAST) at Carlsbad Chambe, expressed his interest in the airport being seen as a regional resource. Jeff Siegel presented the latest (and probably final) version of the Tri-City Medical bond proposal to go on a mail-in ballot in August, 2008. |

The SDNEDC Board has voted to support the effort by Tri-City Medical Center for a bond measure to be completed in August. As part of this
support, the SDNEDC is hosting an evening, July 31st from 5 pm – 8 pm, for our members and friends to make phone calls to the community to urge their support for this bond. I am told that excessive amounts of food and beverages will be
