Presentation to the Board – Presenter: Vicky Basehore, President of California Center for the Arts, Escondido, gave a presentation on the activities of the Center and its economic impact on the region. The California Center for the Arts, Escondido includes a concert hall, theater, art and dance studios, a visual arts museum, and a conference center. The new 2007-2008 Performing Arts Season begins in September. Christian Wolf, Director of Performing Arts for the Center, introduced the upcoming performances for the
2007-2008 season. The upcoming season includes three new series, the Pop Series, the Wine & Song Series, and the Alternative Stage Series. More information on the upcoming season is available at the Center's web site: www.artcenter.org.

Marketing Committee – Diane Strand, Committee Chair, briefed the board on the activities of the committee. She reminded members about the Kudos program, and welcomed Edmund Ozorio from Comerica Bank who was attending as a guest of the President. Steve Jahn from San Diego Magazine provided an update on the SDNEDC publication, San Diego North Economic Outlook – Vision 2020. The publishing date is scheduled for the end of September. For the Economic Roundtable TV show, Diane reported that studio production of the first episode is underway. It will be aired on various local public access TV channels from the middle of August to the middle of September.

Public Policy Committee – Gary Knight, President & CEO, briefed the board on the activities of the Public Policy Committee. The committee will be extending an invitation to all local elected officials to attend its meetings. The committee has the following priorities: transportation, land use & housing, workforce development & education, infrastructure & utilities, and business growth. The committee recommends that the SDNEDC send a letter to the State Budget Committee and other appropriate parties to urge passage of a balanced budget that reflects the figures of the legislative analyst's office. Chris Jennewein moved to send such a letter, the motion was seconded by Julie Wright, and approved by the board, with representatives of state and local elected officials abstaining. The committee also recommends that the board prepare a position statement reflective of the SDNEDC's goals and objectives that could be used in letters of support or opposition to various policies.

ECONOMIC ROUNDTABLE

We are pleased to announce that the Economic Roundtable TV show will begin to air this weekend on local channels.

The first episode addresses the issue of real estate development in our region and, specifically, the new Merriam Mountains development in San Diego's North County.

We are proud to have Merriam Mountains as a member of our organization and, in fact, this TV show would not have been possible without the teamwork and collaboration of several of our members. JDS Video & Media Productions, Inc. produced the show and we are grateful for their creative and technical expertise. The show was filmed at the studios of another member, Cal State San Marcos, and the show's roundtable panel of experts are local leaders from member organizations: Joe Perring, Vice President of Merriam Mountains; Mark Oatman, President Elect of North San Diego County Association of Realtors; Marney Cox, Chief Economist of SANDAG; and Gary Knight, President and CEO of our organization.

To everyone who contributed to this show, Thank You. We hope that it is the first of many interesting and informative episodes that create important opportunities for our members and contribute to the economic development of our region. If you would like to be featured in future episodes, please contact our office for details and sponsorship levels.
