August to the middle of September.
Public Policy Committee
– Gary Knight, President & CEO, briefed the board on the
activities of the Public Policy Committee. The committee will be
extending an invitation to all local elected officials to attend its
meetings. The committee has the following priorities:
transportation, land use & housing, workforce development &
education, infrastructure & utilities, and business growth. The
committee recommends that the SDNEDC send a letter to the State
Budget Committee and other appropriate parties to urge passage of a
balanced budget that reflects the figures of the legislative
analyst's office. Chris Jennewein moved to send such a letter, the
motion was seconded by Julie Wright, and approved by the board, with
representatives of state and local elected officials abstaining. The
committee also recommends that the board prepare a position
statement reflective of the SDNEDC's goals and objectives that could
be used in letters of support or opposition to various
policies.

| ECONOMIC ROUNDTABLE |
| |
We are pleased to
announce that the Economic Roundtable TV show will begin to air this
weekend on local channels.
The first episode addresses the
issue of real estate development in our region and, specifically,
the new Merriam Mountains development in San Diego's North
County.
We are proud to have Merriam Mountains as a member of
our organization and, in fact, this TV show would not have been
possible without the teamwork and collaboration of several of our
members. JDS Video & Media Productions, Inc. produced the show and we are grateful for
their creative and technical expertise. The show was filmed at the
studios of another member, Cal State San Marcos, and the show's
roundtable panel of experts are local leaders from member
organizations: Joe Perring, Vice President of Merriam Mountains;
Mark Oatman, President Elect of North San Diego County Association
of Realtors; Marney Cox, Chief Economist of SANDAG; and Gary Knight,
President and CEO of our organization.
To everyone who
contributed to this show, Thank You. We hope that it is the first of
many interesting and informative episodes that create important
opportunities for our members and contribute to the economic
development of our region. If you would like to be featured in
future episodes, please contact our office for details and
sponsorship levels.
