Presentation to the Board – Sandra Moreland, San Diego Workforce Partnership. Sandra gave the Board an overview of the new website www.sdworkportal.com. This is a new site designed to give Labor Market Intelligence from a team of
experts which is continuously reviewed listing industry trends and providing the latest career information for the San Diego region. You will also find listings for the top 5 job categories and the top 5 industries by average wage. There
are many links to other related sites that provide a comprehensive guide to key industries and jobs within the region.
Kate Keena representing the TCA gave a brief update on the Toll Road SR 241. The Secretary of Commerce plans to hold a meeting in the area to hear testimony related to the toll road. The site has not been determined yet, but Kate
requested that we attend the meeting and vocalize our support for this project. The Board directed the staff to attend this meeting and provide testimony on behalf of the SDNEDC.
Membership & Events Committee – Julie Wright, Committee Chair
The committee planned the Holiday Luncheon and the 10th Year Anniversary of the SDNEDC on December 1st at the California Center for the Arts. More information about the event and sponsorship opportunities will follow at the next Board
Meeting. The Board thanked the committee for the outstanding work it had done to make the event with our local elected officials such a success. More than 100 people attended and 4 articles were written for the various media outlets.
Public Policy Committee – David Nilson, Committee Chair
The committee didn't meet on July 3rd; because of the 4th of July holiday weekend. The next committee meeting will be on August 7, 2008 at the San Marcos City Hall in the Discovery Room. The committee will hear information pertaining to
the ballot initiative in San Marcos to restrict growth.

San Diego International Airport |

Airports fuel regional economies
Flying is more than just a faster way to get from point A to point B. It is all the points in between that create a profound economic impact across the region.
Air service has long been a primary catalyst of the regional economy. Air passengers alone generate $2.6 billion annually in spending. Last year more than 6,000 people worked at the airport in a variety of roles, making sure that 230,000
flights take people where they want to go.
San Diego International Airport moves more than 18 million passengers every year. This movement fuels $10 billion to the local economy in many ways. It keeps 115,000 people employed in jobs as diverse as transportation, tourism,
construction, concessions, shipping security, food and freight.
It all adds up. When you think about the wonder of flight, think about the wonder of its economic impact.
Regional Economic Impact
• Overall annual economic impact = $10 billion
• Jobs supported in the region = 115,000
• On-airport jobs = 6,067
New Routes/Flights Grow the Visitor Industry:
• One new domestic flight annually generates $8.7 million total visitor spending
• One new international flight annually generates $27.2 million total visitor spending
Annual Air Visitor Spending:
• Overall passenger expenditures = $2.6 billion
One of the top airports in the world
According to Airports Council International, San Diego International Airport is one of the top five airports in the United States and the second best in the world of airports its size for customer service.
Last year, the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority added new nonstop flights to and from cities popular with both business and leisure travelers. These new destinations not only provide greater convenience for our region's
residents, but also attract visitors who contribute significantly to the region's well-being.
The resumption of international service to the United Kingdom through a multi-year undertaking to attract international carriers resulted with Zoom Airlines starting a twice weekly flight to London in June on this year. In addition to the
convenience for those traveling internationally, the new service greatly benefits the regional visitor economy.
The airport's efforts to secure more domestic and international routes not only benefit the traveling public, but have a profound impact on the regional economy as well. One daily nonstop wide-body flight to an international destination
contributes more than $100 million per year in total economic impact.
We are San Diego's airport: the gateway to the region
The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority is committed to serving under the following principles:
• The need to safely and efficiently meet the requirements of San Diego's traveling public, including residents, tourists and business visitors;
• The need to support economic growth that can maximize employment opportunities and help ensure a higher quality of life for all San Diegans;
• The need to support our export-oriented industries such as electronics, communications, life sciences, software and defense technology in national and international markets.
San Diego International Airport is a major corporate citizen and committed community partner in San Diego County. On many levels and in many arenas, the airport strives to better the quality of life for its stakeholders.
Our future is bright, and we will continue to invest in the prosperity of this rich and diverse region through air service development, outstanding customer service and collaborative community partnerships.
